An Agitated High School Student Exhibits More Than A Few Alcohol-Related Problems, Gets Removed From School, And Has To See The School Counselor

Stephen was a seventeen year old high school junior who was manifesting more than a few alcohol-related issues at school. Consequently, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to return to school.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to clarify his school suspension to his Mother and Father. His Mom and Dad were "fairly conservative" and explained to Stephen that dropping out of school was not a viable educational plan of action. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his legs that could probably impede his educational achievement for the remainder of his life. Moreover, Stephen's Mom and Dad were quite saddened that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

It was apparent that his Mother and Father were completely in agreement with Stephen's principal and explained to Stephen that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school therapist. After his conversation with his parents, Stephen at last agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen called the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during his first period class.

When Stephen arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she instantaneously analyzed all of the alcohol-related problems Stephen had experienced and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related activities caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite honestly, Stephen was not sure why the principal informed him that he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking behavior? Due to the fact that virtually all of his pals drink as much if not more than he does, for all intents and purposes, drinking shouldn't be such a big thing. Stated more precisely, if almost everyone is drinking, why is this such a big thing?

In short, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to thwart his ability to act like a responsible young man. As conveyed by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your classmates drink wine, beer, wine coolers, or hard liquor does not mean that it's the best thing to do for you."

Fortunately, Miss Pender was well prepared for her scheduled time with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that summarized different drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen quite a bit of information that applied especially to teens.

After Miss Pender listed the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was plain to see that what Miss Pender made known to Stephen was a real source of discovery for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to put in plain words the short term and the long term consequences of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that related to people in general, and mainly to teens.

Indeed, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately comprehended why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his friends any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she reviewed and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
